Back when the Corona Virus was still a thing, student’s from ECE SWCU had made a machine that can wash your hand’s automatically and is contactless. The mentor of this project, Mr. Gunawan Dewantoro said that this project stem’s from the need to contribute to something on the middle of the pandemic. The team consists of 4 student’s which are Ignatius Joddy, Hoeko, Imad, and Ferdi Yansen.
“That automatic hand washer uses infrared sensor’s that can detect one’s hand’s, so it is contactless by nature,” said the team to Tribunjateng.com, Friday (24/4/2020). “When a hand is detected bellow the pipe, a sensor will automatically activate, flowing out clean water for 15 seconds, and then soap, then the machine will stop for 20 second’s to give time for the user to wash their hands properly, and then 20 seconds later water will continue to flow to finish washing the user’s hands. Not only that, the machine can also has an in-built hand dryer that activates as long as your hand’s is still wet” said Gunawan.
The machine needs 5 seconds of downtime in between user’s, and the machine need’s 80 seconds to fully wash one’s hand’s. “All components can be bought with minimal budget on the market, and the sensors were bought from online shops and assembled by hand by the student’s.”
“At the start of development, we need 1 week for initial research and trial and error”.”But after everything is ready it is estimated that it only takes 4 days to make this machine,” Said Gunawan. It is mentioned that the total cost of this machine is roughly Rp3.000.000,- .Or around 185USD (at april 2024).
Gunawan said that they were ready to open up partnerships to all party’s that were interested on that product. The mayor of Salatiga back then, Yuliyanto, apreciates the student’s for their effort’s to stop the chain of infection with their machine.
“I will later install one in front of the mayor’s service building so it will be used by guests”.”There is also an offer to mass produce that product,” He said.
Vice Chancellor IV of SWCU, in charge of partnership and internalization, Josept Ernest Mambu, said that the leader’s of SWCU apreciate the initiative and creativity of ECE student’s. This is also one form of compassion from SWCU for the masses. He hopes that SWCU can be the light that shines on those hard times back then. Joseph also expresses his gratitute to the government of Salatiga had accepted that innovation from the student’s. In the future, he hopes to improve this partnership even more. (tribunnews)
